Survival Forum archive

I find a lot of the information in this sub forum to be very valuable- some of these threads are just gold when it comes to survival and preparations. So I worry sometimes that if (or should I say WHEN) they shut off the Internet I will lose access to the invaluable resources here.

Has anyone archived or backed up this sub forum in particular into a downloadable file that would be relatively easy to open and browse topics?

I vaguely recall some mirror site someone might have made for goldismoney.info but it too would be lost if the Internet went down. I need something I can get a hard copy of onto my hard drive.

If there is nothing available I will gladly take the time to do it and make it available for anyone else.

Not a complete archive by any means. But when I do come across useful ideas or websites I download what I want to keep, or put them in favorite places. If I were really serious I guess I would print hard copies. WTSHTF I doubt if my computor will be able to access what we can now. I also doubt we will be able to get things mailed to us like we can now.

I have invested in numerous books over the years, they will last a long time.

So does this mean there is nothing like this right now? An offline copy of this forum which can be read without Internet access?

Would anyone be interested in this? I would be glad to work on something for this on my free time.

I have been archiving select threads as readable offline and saving them as word documents, but I've been putting most in my extra gmail account. I guess this is because I felt GIM was more apt to go offline than Google. However, this doesn't protect against the internet itself being inaccessible.

What I would do is something like this:

Build a database of as many threads from this sub forum as I can. I can either do this the hard way by 'scraping' the forum with a bot to read and record threads as far back as I can, or the easy way if GKhan would be willing to provide me with a an export from the actual database (of course, limited to just threads here and with all ID's (like user IDs and what-not) removed or masked with dummy values.)

Then once I have a hard copy I can build some kind of simple reader. I would prefer to make something which you can just use your Internet browser to read them (even without any Internet access your browser can read offline material) or build a separate little client app to do this. I of course would prefer to be as simple as possible so would try to get it working with the browser.

I would also like to implement some features you would expect from a forum like viewing the threads would be almost like viewing them here in a structured format AND most importantly a robust searching engine to search your offline database.

so that's what I propose to do. As long as you have a computer with power (like a laptop on battery if the power goes kapoot) you can open up this archive or backup and then search for some important information you remember reading up months ago but thought you'd never need to use it, and then find it again easily- Internet or not.
